Civic Engagement

2006-2010 2014-Present Elected Councillor – City of Guelph Ward 4
Served on the Audit Committee, Community Development and Environmental Services Committee, Chair of the Guelph Transit Sub-Committee and Skate-park Relocation Committee.

2006-2010 2014-Present Board Member – Grand River Conservation Authority
The GRCA manages water and other natural resources on behalf of 38 municipalities and close to one million residents.

2006-2010 Trustee – Macdonald Stewart Art Gallery
Executed a comprehensive strategic planning process and asset management analysis in advance of reopening negotiations with the founding agencies.


Business Development

2003-Current Principal – Earthartist Planning and Design
Specialising in the design and development of natural playgrounds and outdoor learning environments for schools, daycare centres and municipalities across North America.

2006-2012 Founding Member – The Natural Burial Co-operative
Established the “Centre for Natural Burial” an on-line resource with over three thousand subscribers. Launched Tribute Caskets as a wholly owned subsidiary

2010 – 2011 Founding Member – Tribute Caskets
Developed detailed business plan. Implemented capital investment campaign to raise startup funding including appearance on CBC – Dragons’ Den, directed production partners through product development stage

1993-1997 President – Bicycle Assemblers of Canada
Developed business concept from sole proprietorship to 15 franchisees providing product assembly and repair franchise services for large format retailers including Wal-Mart, Canadian Tire, Sport Check, and Home Hardware.

1987-1992 Sole Proprietor – The Bicycle Garage
Awarded “Youth Venture Program” start-up capital following detailed business plan approval process to establish a bicycle repair and retail store. Average annual sales increase of 186%.


Volunteer Work

2011-2014 Founding Board Member – Chance to Play
Helped implement the Play it Forward Soccer Program by partnering with local Canadian residents, schools, churches and organizations to organize and coordinate  the distribution of the soccer donations to communities in Tanzania, The Philippines, Dominican Republic, and Nicaragua.

1992-1995 Board Member – Childhope Foundation Canada
Negotiated a strategic partnership with Onward Willow to establish “Pedals for People” project and provide skills training for youth in Guelph. Established operations centre and Brampton warehouse facility and managed local fund-raising initiatives

1988-1990 Associate Producer – Charitable Media Productions
“The TV Bingo Game” – Ontario’s first live-to-air interactive cable TV fundraiser. Established distribution partners and sales outlets across broadcast area. Performed various production roles including casting, floor manager, technical direction and video control operations.

1985-1986 Marketing Manager – Feedback Canada (Feed the Children)
Supplying local food banks through corporate in-kind donations. Developed media releases and press kits promoting Feedback Canada in print, radio and television. Engaged corporate donors to establish ongoing relationships and coordinated service delivery with food banks across Ontario.
